Voice acting for video games provides a very unique working situation. The gaming voiceover will often be asked to say the same sentence in numerous different ways, in order to account for the numerous situations in which the player might hear those words. If they always sound the same, the gamer will quickly lose interest, feeling that the game is limited.
Every line of dialogue and exclamation of emotion has to be vocalised and saved as individual files. It’s a process that can take hours, and the gaming voiceover artist must be able to give as much energy and enthusiasm and stay in character from line 1 to 100.
Naturally, the ability to voice multiple characters and give them each their own unique personality is important. Your voiceover needs to be able to truly ‘become’ their character, so that everything they say feels natural and in no way contrived.
Of course, it’s not just the major games developers who need the services of a character voice over. The advent of app development has seen the industry return some power to the ‘bedroom programmer’. There are countless books to teach you how to programme your own apps and there are even apps to help you do it too!

About Me
Times have certainly changed in the video game world since I played my first game on a television screen back in 1979 with the Binatone gaming console. In fact I doubt it was called a console back then, it was just a very exciting new toy that my brother and I received that Christmas and how eye opening it was! Tennis, ping pong and even target shooting all played in our living room.
And then my brother was given a ZX81 and the games became a little more refined and complicated and I confess I lost interest.
Skip forward to 2003 and I was introduced to a whole new world of games on screen when I started to play Playstation games with my youngest stepson and I was amazed at the progression in graphics and sound.
By the time I became a voice over artist the industry had exploded and with it the demand for believable voices to help carry the gammers through the huge choice of stories, puzzles and adventures now available.
I’m thrilled to be able to be a part of this revolution and am always very proud to be asked to voice gaming characters so if you think my voice may be the one for your zombie alien or your warrior queen please do get in the touch and let the games commence!

Even as a child at infant school in the 70’s I was complimented on my clear and confident speaking voice. When asked for volunteers to read out loud in class it was my hand that shot up as although I wasn’t great at science and maths, I knew I had a talent for speech.
