So you are looking for a narrator for your Audiobook?
As an experienced audiobook narrator with a number of published books in a wide variety of genres, I would be delighted to help.
Choosing your narrator carefully is very important for the success of your audio book voice over.
Your chosen narrator needs to understand your audio book completely. They need to be able to understand the tone that you want – be it authoritative, or humourous. If it is a novel they need to be able to voice act convincingly and empathise with your characters, or if it is a self help book, they need to sound knowledgeable in the subject.
An experienced narrator will know how to work effectively and efficiently so that your audiobook voice over is produced within a set time frame so you can plan publicity pre and post publication.
They need to have the required audio editing skills to produce the audiobook to expected industry standards.
Before asking for sample reads of your book, have a think about the sort of voice you imagine reading your words. For example, is it important to you if it’s a male or female voice? – obviously if it is in the first person that decision is already made but in the case of a third person narration does it matter to you?
If the characters are set in a particular location, do they all need to speak with the same accent, or does the location accent really matter? Many audiobooks, films and television productions use actors who don’t have an accent specific to the setting, but perhaps in your book the Scottish, Irish, French or whatever accent is key to the story? All things to consider.
One of my earliest memories of childhood is sitting on my mums knee being read to. Her voice transported me to fairytale lands and her character voices brought the pictures to life from the pages of the books.
Years later I read to my own step children and anyone who has seen the face of a child entranced as they are read to, will understand what a delight it is.
And that delight is still how I feel today when narrating audiobooks for a somewhat wider audience.
Children’s books are still something of a speciality of mine, probably my motherly RP accent helps and the ability to invent character voices, but I have also narrated a wide genre of adult books, both fiction and non fiction and am willing to consider all genres that my voice may suit.
What I can do for you
Whether you are new to the audiobook world or your books are already being enjoyed by the ever increasing audio book audience out there, I can help to bring your words to life.
I am more than happy to provide you with a short Free sample read from your book to help you decide before you make the decision on your narrator.
Once you are happy that I am a fit for you I will read the full book, make notes about all the characters, story etc and will then record a sample to check that you are happy before recording the book in full.
Once completed I will send you the file to check and will make one set of revisions if necessary.
I produce all my audiobooks to ACX standards and am happy to help with any questions you may have about uploading to ACX.
I am a listed narrator on the ACX website and so if you prefer to go through them I am happy to do so and am also listed on Far Away voices, Pro Audio Voices, and other audiobook producing sites.
Since starting out as a voice over and audiobook narrator in 2017 I have narrated a wide variety of audiobooks and countless voice over projects.

Amazing work! Deryn went out of her way to make sure we were happy with the characters before recording.
AudioBook Voice Over
You’ve worked for weeks, months and maybe even years on your book and all that hard work deserves an excellent audiobook narrator.
Animation Voice Over
As a voice actor, I have the skills to add realism and depth to your story with a specialism in voicing Witches, old crones and posh, foreboding ladies!.
Meet Deryn Oliver
Even as a child at infant school in the 70’s I was complimented on my clear and confident speaking voice. When asked for volunteers to read out loud in class it was my hand that shot up as although I wasn’t great at science and maths, I knew I had a talent for speech.
And, as I found out in later years, a talent for acting too. Combine those two talents with a cheery disposition, a sense of fun, a touch of perfectionism, a smidgen of silliness and a large helping of reliability, and you have your 'go to' voice over artist.
'Let’s not complicate things that are really quite simple’ - Mary Poppins
And I agree wholeheartedly. (Or should I say ‘Indubitably’) as being simple and straightforward to work with is what I am all about.
I will record a high quality voice over to your specifications for your project, will follow your directions, give feedback, chat with you about progress and above all will do all these in a timely and cheerful fashion.
I approach every voice over project, however large or small, with the same enthusiasm and attention to detail and ensure I have all the information up front in order to give you the best.
What makes me different
As well as having a quintessential English voice aka Mary Poppins, I can also bring other elements of her qualities to your project.
No, not the ability to sail up the banisters, fly with the aid of an umbrella or dance with penguins but I can bring a bit of calm order, and professionalism as well as a sense of fun and versatility to your voice over project. And if desired, I can magically change my voice to sound less like Mary and more like Bert (though with a better cockney accent!) or a wide variety of other voices.
And if you want to hear me voice your words before placing an order, I am more than happy to record a short sample for you to help you decide. Just fill out the form with details of your project and a small sample of the read and I will send a file via which ever method you prefer.
I'd Love to Help You
I’m so lucky to be able to work in this wonderful industry and I would love to hear about your voice over project so I can bring character to your words.
